Trio to be Inducted into HBAV Hall of Fame for Industry Contributions

The Home Builders Association of Virginia will induct three new members into its Hall of Fame during the 2024 Annual Conference and Housing Excellence Awards on June 14. The Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the housing industry in Virginia and the association. Inductees have played significant roles in achieving HBAV’s mission and supporting our industry as we provide housing for all Virginians.

This year’s inductees are:

Shawn Callahan, president and chief financial officer of Metwood Building Solutions, an innovative building product manufacturer located in Boones Mill.

Throughout his career, Callahan has pushed design, construction and sustainability boundaries to deliver projects that exceed industry standards. His visionary approach to home building has earned him widespread acclaim and respect among peers, clients and industry professionals.

Callahan’s commitment to the home building industry is evident in his volunteer leadership accomplishments, which include serving as president of the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association, HBAV president for 2017-2018, Chairing and restructuring the HBAV education foundation to focus on workforce development, volunteering as the NAHB State Representative and NAHB National Area Chairman.  Moreover, Shawn is always willing to generously share his expertise, insights, and resources to support the growth and development of fellow professionals.

With a career marked by notable achievements, impactful contributions, and unwavering commitment to his profession and community, Callahan embodies the highest standards of excellence in the residential building industry.  

Louis Genuario Jr., president of the Genuario Companies and Wakefield Homes.

The Genuario Companies and Wakefield Homes have been fixtures in the Northern Virginia home building industry for decades, with business activities that include infill and small subdivision development, and new home construction in Northern Virginia. His father, Louis Genuario Sr., founded the family building business in 1970.  

After graduating from Virginia Tech and a four-year stint at Bechtel Engineering, Louis Genuario and his brother, Rick, joined the family business.

Since 1990, Louis Genuario has been an active HBAV leader through his work on the legislative committee and the Build PAC. Genuario served as NVBIA president in 2003, HBAV president in 2014 and NAHB Virginia state representative in 2017-2018.

His thoughtful and detailed approach to every problem have been the hallmarks of his involvement in each organization. He works every day to create the best housing opportunities for Virginia residents, and his enthusiasm for advocating for home builders over decades of service to Virginia’s residential building industry is exemplary.

J.M. Snell, founder of Valley Renovators.

A U.S. Navy veteran and the son of a builder, Snell started Valley Renovators with his mother Betty, in 1996. He currently works alongside his brother, Zack.

Valley Renovators, based in Harrisonburg, began as a remodeling contractor but quickly shifted more focus to building homes. Over the last 27 years, Valley Renovators has grown to become a general contractor with 22 employees, and it has built more than 1,000 homes in the Shenandoah Valley. 

J.M. Snell’s passion to protect affordable housing has led to long-time support of Shenandoah Valley Builders Association, HBAV, and NAHB. As an active member of the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association, Snell is a two-term local HBA president and life director, and he served on the HBAV leadership ladder from 2012-2016, including president in 2016. Snell is a 500+Spike and chair of the SVBA Membership Committee. 

Snell serves selflessly and, when asked, is always ready to answer the call. Currently, Snell serves on the Virginia Board of Housing and recently joined the Virginia Fire Services Board as builder representative.
